Fee involved activities…
Fishing with local fisherman: 1900 Lps. per person
Usually an early morning departure and an early afternoon return. The local way of fishing is using hand line, and you would go out in a fishing dory. The people of the Cays have made their living off the sea for generations, and there is no better way to learn about the local waters and Cayon life than from one of our friendly fishermen. Spend a day on the boat with one of these seasoned veterans, and we promise you will never forget it. You’ll hear stories about Cay life, learn the native names for all the best “eating fish”, and maybe even catch a few yourself.
We can also arrange a day or half day of sport fishing or bone fishing for you and or your group.
Water Cay: 800 Lps.[1-4 persons, each additional person is 200 Lps.]
How would you like to have a private picnic on a deserted island? This may sound like a far-fetched dream, but can be a very real activity for you. Enjoy a day or half day on Water Cay, a privately owned Cay but available to guests, as it is the best swimming beach on the north side and also there is snorkeling on the south side. We provide you with transportation, hammocks, and an ice chest with drinks and snacks. We will also provide lunch for 150 Lps. per person and bring it to you at an arranged time. Treasure the day in Water Cay style.
Around the island boat tour: 2,645 Lps.
On a clear and calm day, going around the Island of Utila gives you a different perspective from the sea. It makes for great picture taking, sun tanning, and an exotic experience. We suggest a morning departure as the wind normally picks up in the afternoon and the north side of the island can get rough. It takes a couple of hours and if it is timed right, a stop in Utila for lunch before heading back to the Cays makes for a perfect day. Drinks and snacks provided during the cruise.
Around the Utila Cays boat tour: 800 Lps. [1-4 persons, each additional person is 200 Lps.]
As an option we can take you and your guests on a private boat tour of the Utila Cays. Each one of the cays are unique. Do you know how many there are and their names? Take the Cay tour and discover the answers.
Cocinera en su casa: [Your own in house cook] 500 Lps., [plus supplies]
The midday or evening meal can be prepared in your kitchen giving you the opportunity for a mini cooking class if you like, or simply an opportunity to enjoy someone else doing the work and not having to go out from your house.
The cooks of the Cays use the same recipes that have been in their families for generations, and the food here is a lively mixture of old favorites brought by the settling pirates, Caribbean flavor, and Spanish spice. Take a taste of the Cays home with you with our local cookbook, “A Taste of Utila Cays” for 200 Lps.
Scuba Diving:
Utila and the Cays are known internationally as a true divers’ paradise. There are literally hundreds of gorgeous dive spots among the reefs that surround us. Visitors are sure to see any number of intensely colored tropical fish and corals, and some lucky divers even catch a glimpse of a sea turtle, rays, shark or a whale shark while down below! At Island Life Tours, we work closely with Captain Morgan’s Dive Centre, so we know that their instructors and equipment are first-rate. While this activity will incur an additional equipment and lessons fee, it’s sure to be one of the most memorable experiences of your trip, and is well worth the investment.
Snorkeling:
Lucky you! When you come to the Cays to spend your vacation with Island Life Tours, world-class snorkeling is literally right outside your doorstep. From any one of our lovely lodgings, you can easily walk to numerous reef sites, sure to be packed with vibrant sea life, coral, and beautiful tropical fish. W have plenty of snorkel gear for you, so there is no need to worry about added rental fees.
Swimming:
When the tropical sun starts to beam down on us, you’ll be glad for a quick splash in the beautifully clear, turquoise waters off the Cays. Unlike other tourist destinations where the sea is kindly referred to as “refreshing” or “brisk”, the water here are warmed by the sun to be comfortable all year round.
Sunbathing:
While there are no “beaches” in this little fishermen’s village, we have some options to offer you. On the harbor side of The Rocks Cay is an incredible over the water deck with a picnic table, dock, and great swimming area. We can get you there by water if the Cay is rented. The secluded beach at Mariners Landing is another option. It’s just a short boat ride away across the harbor, and our boatman will gladly take you there to spend some time. And also, the sun deck at Captain Morgan’s is an ideal place to catch some rays while you enjoy the constant cool breeze and listen to the waves lapping at the dock below.
Kayaking:
Island Life Tours has a two man sea kayak, which you can take on a serene cruise to check out the local reefs, or even paddle over to Water Cay for some real fun in the sun. If you are used to getting around in cars or even in fast boats, you’ll be overwhelmed by the peace you’ll find gliding across our calm and tranquil waters in a kayak. Make your reservation with a concierge.
Hammocking:
We understand that non-islanders may not view this as a serious activity. However, it is important to remind you that to truly enjoy a life of laid back luxury, a hammock is required. There is nothing like swinging free in a hand-knotted hammock that gently rocks with the breeze. Hammocks are where we do our best thinking, reading, and dreaming!
Chatting with locals:
All the stories you’ve heard of old fishermen and sailors telling yarns are true. If you spend a lazy hour or two at the local park, you’ll be sure to hear some great stories! The park is the place to meet on the Cays, and at any given time you’ll find locals telling tall tales, talking about politics, or just shooting the breeze with dear old friends.
